RIYADH — Coinciding with the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Kingdom, the Ministry of Culture is celebrating masterpieces of Russian culture through various events starting here on Monday evening. The events include a variety of performances highlighting the value of Russian culture, an exhibition of paintings of Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky, an art exhibition on artificial intelligence, as well as screenings of classic and modern Russian films in addition to music concerts. The ministry, in collaboration with the Russian Direct Investment Fund, is organizing the great cultural event titled as "Cultures from Russia" at King Fahd Cultural Center. The events are aimed at highlighting the cultural relations between the two countries, casting light on the magnificence of the Russian culture over centuries. The events kicked off Monday evening with a concert that included a musical evening for the Russian Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, which presents a group of famous musical albums of the most important international musicians, including Sergei Rachmaninoff and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The Moscow-based orchestra performed a magical symphonic experience that took music lovers on an inspiring journey through some of the most famous and great moments in Russian opera. The Ministry of Culture made it possible for the audience from all walks of life to attend the orchestra and the rest of the events through a dedicated website to register at: https://www.moc.gov.sa/en/events/3982 The events include an exhibition titled "Artificial intelligence and dialogue of cultures", in which ten artists presented works of art realized through computer software in a manner that includes a new look for the relationship between the artist and the viewers. Among the highlights of the exhibition are "Memories of Passersby" by Mario Klingemann and "Instructional Time" by Nobel Prize winner Konstantin Novoselov, which discusses philosophical themes expressed in graphene papers, with Saudi artists Muhannad Shono and Lulwah Al-Homoud. "Cultures from Russia" also included an exhibition of works of art by the Russian founder of pure abstraction in modern painting Wassily Kandinsky, who died in 1944. His paintings represent a fascinating artistic show full of color and expression, with details of wooden houses, utensils, household items, toys, and spinning wheels in the 19th and 20th centuries. "Cultures from Russia" showcases some of the most important classic and modern Russian films, including "Mirror" by the great Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky. The Oscar-winning film "The Old Man and the Sea," and the "Battle of Stalingrad," directed by Vladimir Petrov are to be screened. The Ministry of Culture organized the events in partnership with the Russian Direct Investment Fund to celebrate the masterpieces of what Russian culture has produced with its long history of creativity to emphasize the depth of relations between Saudi Arabia and Russia.
