Ibrahim Khudair Okaz/Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — More Saher cameras will be installed in Makkah to start crack down on drivers who run traffic lights when they are red, according to the Makkah Traffic Department. It said all the roads to the central area around the Grand Mosque are open but vehicles are not allowed to use them 15 minutes before each prayer time as they become pedestrian only. Last week, at least 153 vehicles were impounded after their drivers acted as private cabbies even though this was against the law, the department said. Some vehicles were impounded because the drivers ran red lights while others were confiscated because they were in a bad condition. Umrah performers and visitors can park their vehicles at four parking lots in Makkah — Al-Rusaifah, Al-Qashlah, and Rabwat Al-Hadharem and Al-Maskhootah. There are shuttle services at these parking lots and Umrah performers and visitors can use public transportation. The department said over 5,000 motorcycles that were impounded because their owners did not have official registration documents will be sold next month.
