The Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) has signed an agreement with Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, to provide training courses for ICT engineers in the Kingdom. The agreement between SCE and Huawei was signed Sunday by the Secretary General of the SCE Eng. Farhan Alshammari and Dennis Zhang, CEO of Huawei Tech. Investment Saudi Arabia Co., Ltd. The agreement outlines a program of specialist training courses for a select number of engineering candidates in the areas of Router & Switch, and Storage and Security. Such courses are in demand among engineering professionals and their employers because they teach the knowledge and skills to install, configure, operate and troubleshoot routed and switched networks – an integral contributor to KSA's ongoing digital transformation. Farhan Alshammari, SCE Secretary General, said: "Huawei's expertise and excellence in ICT is recognized globally, which is why we've chosen them as our partners for our latest engineering training initiative. Widespread professional development in this crucial area will revolutionize not only the Kingdom's technological landscape but also the workforce's employment prospects. Together with Huawei we hope to continue to build a flexible, ever-evolving ICT infrastructure and ecosystem for the Kingdom's youth and employees." Dennis Zhang, CEO of Huawei Tech. Investment Saudi Arabia Co., Ltd, added: "Forging strategic partnerships with the SCE builds upon Huawei's commitment to develop the Kingdom's ICT talent pool while contributing to the aim we share with the country's government – to help guide Saudi Arabia through its current period of digital transformation, and set industries up for future long-term development." Formed 16 years ago, the SCE is a professional body intended to promote the engineering profession among the Saudi workforce, while developing and raising the standards of those practicing it. Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, one of the organization's key stated responsibilities is professional development. As the government strives towards digital transformation, professional development has been identified as an area that can be advanced through Huawei's ICT training. The ICT industry is one of the most valuable and fastest-evolving industries for young people in employment in the Kingdom. The SCE-Huawei partnership aims to equip young engineers with the tools and skillset to drive and evolve the nation's ambitions in digital transformation. — SG
