Dr. Yousouf Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, Minister of Social Affairs, on Tuesday launched the diabetes children care program in Makkah Region. The program is being implemented by the Shifa Society for the care of chronic diseases in Makkah in cooperation with the General Directorate of Health Affairs in Makkah Region and a number of governmental bodies. Dr. Khalid Abdullah Taib, Chairman of the Shifa Society, highlighted the society's accomplishments achieved in less than a year including the start of the program, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, to reduce the need for foot amputation among people with diabetes by operating a specialized clinic for the care of diabetic feet at King Abdul Aziz Hospital in Makkah and strengthening medical and nursing cadres and necessary medical supplies.
