Work on Dhala mountain road kicks off

Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Asir Region, listens to an overview of the expansion project of Dhala mountain road that connects Abha with the deep south of the Kingdom on Tuesday. With its tourist attractions, visitors to Abha use the road to experience the valley area below. The work on the road comes after 25 people were killed on Feb. 22 when a Saudi Public Transport Co. (SAPTCO) bus overturned on the road falling into a 300-meter deep ravine. A similar accident occurred two years ago claiming 25 lives. The Kingdom has one of the world's highest rates of traffic accidents, according to the Transportation Ministry. Road deaths have exceeded 35,000 over the past decade, with more than 200,000 people injured.
