Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Residents of Al-Samir 4 District in east Jeddah have threatened to sue National Water Company over the drowning of large parts of their neighborhood due to a broken saline water pipeline. The residents said the company has ignored their complaints which were filed about 10 days ago. They said the company should have stepped in quickly to fix the broken pipeline which has led to the formation of swamps that were emanating bad smell and resulting in the multiplication of insects. The residents said in case water is leaking from any of their homes, the company will impose heavy fines on them and questioned who will hold the company accountable when it leaves a pipeline broken for such a long time? Saleh Ali Al-Ghamdi, a resident, said swamps were created near his home causing epidemics and bad odor. Hussain Abdullah Al-Malki said they were intent on suing the company over the damages to their neighborhood and added that the stagnant water has eroded the asphalt layer and created ditches.
