BERLIN — German prosecutors say a 35-year-old Turkish man who allegedly served as a recruiter for the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party has been charged with membership in a foreign terrorist organization. Prosecutors said in a statement Tuesday that Metin A., whose last name was not released in accordance with German privacy laws, was charged Feb. 21 with being a member of the militant Kurdish group known as the PKK. He's suspected of using Berlin as a base from March 2008 until his arrest in July 2011 to recruit for PKK's Komalen Ciwan youth organization, and for people to join the group's guerilla fight in Turkey. He was arrested in Switzerland and extradited to Germany in November. PKK guerrillas have been fighting for self-rule in southeastern Turkey since 1984. – AP
