Mishal Al-Otaibi Saudi Gazette RIYADH — The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) has commissioned a team of specialists to investigate the delay in the installation of communications and signals systems for the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO). SRO had signed a contract with a company to implement a project to improve safety and security for the railways. The contract, worth more than SR429 million, was signed eight years ago and was supposed to be completed within two years. Another contract worth more than SR25 million was signed with a foreign company to supervise the project. SRO also signed a contract worth more than SR59 million with the same contractor to upgrade the communications and signals system, despite the fact that the first contract had not been completed yet. The commission also pointed out that the first contract was not yet completed, even though the deadline had long passed. This indicated administrative and financial corruption and wasting public money, said the commission. It also has negative implications on train safety and has resulted in accidents, said the commission, explaining its decision to refer the case to the Control and Investigation Board. It asked for the officials responsible for these violations to be investigated.
