EDINBURGH — Six Nations champion Wales ground out a 28-18 win over Scotland at Murrayfield Saturday in the penultimate round to keep its title hopes alive. The victory was a record fifth away win in the tournament for the 2012 grand slam champion, which lost its opening match to Ireland. It now faces a potential title-decider at the Millennium Stadium next Saturday against unbeaten England, which hosts Italy at Twickenham Sunday. Wales hooker Richard Hibbard scored the only try of a scrappy match, dominated by the Welsh forwards. Fullback Leigh Halfpenny kicked a conversion and seven penalties. Scotland scrumhalf Greig Laidlaw, the hero of the home victory over Ireland in the previous round, converted six penalties. Cheetahs beat Highlanders The Cheetahs got their just reward for another brave show of running rugby in New Zealand with a 36-19 Super Rugby win over the Otago Highlanders Saturday. The South African outfit raced into a 30-7 halftime lead thanks to two tries by Sarel Pretorius and one from Robert Ebersohn as they took advantage of needless errors by the home side to record a first ever win over the Highlanders. The Stormers celebrated their first home game by holding off the unbeaten defending champion Chiefs 36-34 in an entertaining Super 15 rugby match at Newlands also Saturday. On Friday, Queensland Reds came from behind to beat the Melbourne Rebels 23-13 in their Super 15 Australian derby and keep in touch of conference leaders ACT Brumbies. — Agencies
