MAKKAH — The entrances and streets of Makkah are still carrying signboards welcoming the leaders of Islamic countries to an Islamic summit. The summit was convened seven months ago and it seems that time has stood still for these signs. There are other signboards that offer Eid Al-Fitr and National Day greetings. Visitors express astonishment at these signs. Citizens asked local authorities to remove these signboards and replace them with informative and educational ones. Makkah municipality spokesman Othman Mali said these signboards are the property of the municipality and its branches are responsible for their removal. These boards, he added, are the responsibility of the investment department at the municipality and not the public relations department.
