THE Movenpick Hotel Deira has announced the appointment of German national Anke Glaessing as general manager for the 216-room five-star hotel located in the bustling heritage and trading hub of Deira, on Dubai Creek. Apart from driving hotel performance, Anke will also be working closely with the hotel's executive team and M?venpick Hotels' regional office to develop enhanced strategies that will reinforce the appeal of the hotel to both the corporate business and the growing meetings and incentive segment. Glaessing brings a wealth of hands-on operational expertise to the role following a career path that has taken her from her native Germany to take up executive leadership roles in Southeast Asia and Dubai. She joins M?venpick fresh from Rotana Hotels where she was resident manager at the Al Murooj Rotana in Dubai. “A true career hotelier, Anke has managed virtually every facet of the hotel operation, giving her a unique perspective of what makes a hotel tick and ways in which to improve, still further, the appeal of the M?venpick Hotel Deira to the corporate market,” said Andreas Mattmüller, Chief Operating Officer for M?venpick Hotels & Resorts, Middle East and Asia. Glaessing's appointment comes as the hotel looks to grow on the success of its first two years of operation, and the historic Deira area embarks on a four-year transformation following the announcement of the launch of the $816 million Deira Waterfront Development Project in late 2012. “M?venpick Hotel Deira is in an area of Dubai that will benefit from plans for a new waterfront, especially with the leisure, commercial and retail development, there are a host of new business opportunities on the horizon,” Glaessing said. The hotel offers elegantly furnished rooms, a rooftop swimming pool overlooking Dubai and a state-of-the-art gym. Dubai International Airport is a 10-minute drive away. The hotel also provides a complimentary shuttle service to Oceana Beach Club on The Palm Jumeirah where the guests can enjoy the facilities of the club and private beach. — SG
