There is a pressing issue before most of the Saudi citizens now: Why do we not enable Saudis born in the US and are American citizens by birth to keep both their American and Saudi nationalities at the same time? Why not at least allow these Saudi citizens to carry their American passports which will enable them to enter and exit the US anytime without visa? This is, of course, in addition to the many benefits of the American passport which will enable its holder to travel to many countries of the world without an entry visa. When born in the American territories, Saudis like others will be immediately entitled to the American citizenship by birth. This is a right given to all countries of the world not just Saudi Arabia. After the birth of his son or daughter, the father will only have to go to the post office, fill up a certain application form there and send it to the appropriate US agency. Within a week he will receive the American passport for his new born baby. He can get the passport within three days if he pays extra fees. Many countries allow their citizens to carry dual nationalities. They see no harm in this action. These countries do not feel threatened when their children of the soil also carry another nationality. We are aware that obtaining American citizenship in normal circumstances is very difficult or next to impossible. Thousands of people around the world are queuing in front of the US consulates applying for immigration to be naturalized US citizens at the end of the day. I know some families in some Arab countries who will send their pregnant female members to the US to give birth there so their babies get the American citizenship immediately after delivery. I also know a number of married Saudi students whose children were born in America and have obtained the American citizenship by birth. Although this was unplanned, it is their right. I go back to the question I asked at the beginning of this article. Why does not the Shoura Council study this issue and make binding recommendations to the concerned departments that Saudis born in America, Britain, France or other countries hosting thousands of students on scholarships be allowed to carry dual nationalities and will not be violating the law when they carry their Saudi passports? Such a decree will solve many problems for a number of Saudis.
