Saman Ali Abbasi KHOBAR — Coco Chanel once said: “A girl should be two things: classy and beautiful.” It is the dream of every woman to dress up nicely and fashionably. Many TV channels telecast fashion shows, so now even an ordinary female knows what is trending. But being in a fashion show is an experience in itself. It resonates glamor. The music, lights, ramp, dresses and above all the models leave an unforgettable impression on the audience. One such opportunity was provided to the Indian-Pakistani community residing in the eastern province by Kevah fashions, owned by Indian national Nikhath Khan and her Pakistani partner Ameera Ibrahim, Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Coral International Hotel. Relations between the two arch rivals — India and Pakistan – may have been tense. According to media reports, both countries were on the verge of war. However, unaffected by the soaring tensions on the border, Khan and Ibrahim displayed the best of both the Indian and Pakistani fashion on the ramp. Models clad in chiffon, silk and cotton dresses catwalked and displayed beautifully designed ensembles from both countries. Confident models sported casual “Kurtis,”worn with tights, in bright colors, bold cuts, and embellished with crochet and tassels. Models in semi-formal dresses, which appeal more to the South Asian ladies residing in the Kingdom, adorned with beautiful motifs and embroidery wowed everyone. The highlight of the fashion show was the formal wear and trousseau collection. The impressive collection boasted of dresses in hues of mauve, pink, green, red and blue, and were embellished with “Dabka,” “Salma,” heavy laces, beads and sequins. An Indo-Pak fashion show is incomplete without Saris. Silk, net and “Bandhini” saris with matching “Jamawar” and velvet blouses were simply stunning. However, Banarsi and Kanjivaram saris were missing. Khan wore a beautiful black and red silk sari with a red velvet blouse which was embellished with “Dabka” and tassels. One interesting fact about this fashion show was that it did not display one designer's collection. Kevah fashions brought style from different designers of India and Pakistan. Every single woman in the audience was dressed elegantly. There were lucky draws, giveaways and prizes from Mughal restaurant and Chinese Grill. Jewelry, dresses and Kashmiri shawls were available for sale. Delicious snacks like samosas, tea, cinnamon rolls among others took care of everyone's palate. British national Majida, who wore a beautiful green chiffon outfit, said that she enjoyed the fashion show and looks forward to another one. Even though some visitors complained about the price of tickets, over all the show was a success. – SG
