Chelsea maintained its 100 percent start to the season when a stunning free kick from new signing Deco was enough to give it a 1-0 Premier League win at Wigan Athletic on Sunday. Deco, who also scored on his league debut in last week's 4-0 win over Portsmouth, struck with a beautifully executed free kick in the fourth minute after Wigan's Lee Cattermole handled the ball just outside the penalty area. The win took Chelsea, which was far from its best, to the top of the table with six points, the same as Liverpool which has also won its opening two games although Chelsea has a better goal difference. Champion Manchester United, which opened its campaign with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United last week, plays Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Monday. Wigan, which spoiled Chelsea's hopes of winning the title last season with a late equalizer to force a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in April, continually pressed for an equalizer but was thwarted by some good saves from Chelsea keeper Petr Cech. West Ham United, which beat Wigan last weekend, would have joined Chelsea and Liverpool on six points if it had won at Manchester City, but it was thumped 3-0 after Mark Noble became the first Premier League player sent off this season. Noble was booked by referee Howard Webb after needlessly handling the ball, and then shown the red card for lunging into Michael Johnson seven minutes before halftime. City, beaten 4-2 at Aston Villa on the opening day, won after Elano, who scored twice, and Daniel Sturridge netted three goals in an 11-minute spell midway through the second half. The second half lasted almost 55 minutes because of a prolonged stoppage when City lost Micah Richards. The England defender clashed heads with teammate Tal Ben Haim early in the half and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after being treated by medical staff on the pitch. Wolfsburg goes fourth In Berlin, VfL Wolfsburg fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Bochum on Sunday and go joint fourth in the Bundesliga. The home side took the lead through Slovak striker Stanislav Sestak in the 12th minute before Christoph Dabrowski doubled their advantage with a 50th minute header past Wolfsburg's Portuguese defender Ricardo Costa. Costa made amends just moments later when he raced forward to meet a Marcel Schaefer cross. Bochum's Algerian defender Anthar Yahia attempted to clear, but the ball rebounded off Costa's leg and rolled into the net. Substitute Mahir Saglik then grabbed the equalizer in the 69th minute to deny Bochum, who took their first point of the season, a first home win since March. Promoted Hoffenheim is the unlikely Bundesliga leader with two wins from its two matches. It beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 1-0 on Saturday. In Sunday's other match, Eintracht Frankfurt came from behind to snatch a late 1-1 draw away to Cologne with both teams also securing their first point of the campaign. Lille undone by Rennes In Paris, Rennes was staring at what appeared to be certain defeat against Lille on Sunday until two goals in injury time earned them an unexpected 2-1 win. Rennes fell behind to a 23rd minute goal from Lille midfielder Yohan Cabaye but the Brittany side's never-say-die attitude paid off when it succeeded in turning the match on its head in time added on. Emerson's 90th minute own goal drew it level, then young striker Moussa Sow, set up by a searching freekick blasted upfield by keeper Nicolas Douchez, found the 93rd minute winner from near the penalty spot. In Sunday's other early game, Nice climbed to fifth with a 1-0 defeat of Auxerre. The Cote d'Azur club notched up its second straight win courtesy of Ala Eddine Yahia's 29th minute goal. Bordeaux beat Nantes 2-0 in Sunday's late kick-off. Fernando Cavenaghi and Fernando scored the goals for Bordeaux. The result lifted Bordeaux into third, one point adrift of leaders Marseille and Lyon.
