Saudi Gazette report JAZAN — A medical error is believed to have caused the paralysis and partial blindness of a nine-year-old child in Jazan. The child's father said his son was suffering from sickle cell anemia and a week ago complained of pain. The father took his son to Samtah Hospital and his body temperature was 38 degrees Celsius. The next day his son had the shivers, so he took him to Al-Tiwal Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital where he underwent blood transfusions. Shortly after, the child suffered from abdominal distension and a swollen eye. The hospital referred the child to King Fahd Central Hospital in Jazan. The child underwent an eye surgery but afterward he could not move his hand or foot and lost the sight in one of his eyes.
