A Syrian woman who is thought to have drowned her own daughter in a bathtub has been transferred to the Psychiatric Specialist Hospital for mental and psychological evaluation. The Jeddah Police Department had put off an investigation into the girl's death pending an evaluation of the 25-year-old mother. “The woman's case will be thoroughly investigated as soon as we find out if she suffers from psychological problems,” said Colonel Mesfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for the Jeddah Police Department. According to Dr. Mohammed Al-Hamed, head of the psychological department at Bakhsh Hospital, the mother's case was one of psychological confusion in which she was living outside reality. “Such cases mostly stem from old psychological problems, especially if they were ignored,” said Hamed. “The mother needs more psychological tests in which finding out how long she has had the problem is key to specifying what the problem is.” __
