Syeda Amtul Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Indian engineers in Riyadh were treated to a seminar on how Building Information Modeling (BIM) can help improve the life cycle of any building. Engineer Abdul Khadir, speaking at the event organized by the Riyadh chapter of the Indian Engineers Forum on Tuesday, said BIM goes beyond the planning and design phase of the project, supporting processes including cost management, construction management, project management and facility operation. The event was anchored by the forum's vice president Shaikh Abdul Khadir while the chapter's president Suhail Ahmad welcomed the audience. Ahmad thanked speaker Bimal Patwari, who was praised for his outstanding contributions to various building construction solutions using BIM. Patwari addressed the audience with a presentation on BIM technology, giving various live examples of projects and demonstrating the technical problems faced by engineers at the design and execution stages. He made a clear demarcation between the traditional project management process and that of BIM. Amitabh Saxena, a member of the chapter's consultative council, summed up the session by explaining the importance of technology and its impact on professional and personal spheres. Attendees included forum advisory board member Tariq Masood, consultative council members Bilal Habib and Amitabh Saxena and members A.R. Saleem, Abdul Hameed, Iftikhar Gaur, Mohd Zaigham Khan, Sayeed Mohiuddin and Syed Zia ur-Rahman. Sultan Khan, the forum's vice-president for social affairs, gave a vote of thanks. The event was attended by project managers, design experts and senior practicing engineers representing leading construction contractors and consultancies of Saudi Arabia.
