The Ministries of Interior, Civil Service and Higher Education have initiated measures aimed at verifying credentials of their employees who obtained correspondence degrees from non-accredited and bogus foreign universities. The Ministry of Interior has sent circulars to administrations functioning under it asking them to list all such employees who obtained foreign degrees on their own without officially being sent on scholarships, Al-Hayat reported Saturday. The list will then be sent to Ministry of Higher Education for attestation of their credentials. The move comes after reports of non-accredited foreign universities selling their degrees in the Kingdom that don't meet the academic standards set by the Ministry of Higher Education. A committee set up by the Ministry to study the matter has recommended banning acceptance of any such degrees and to strip off employees in the public sector of their academic titles unless their degrees are attested by the Ministry. The Interior ministry has also asked other provinces across the Kingdom to inform all government bodies to verify certificates of their staffers. __
