Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — Saudi soccer player Naif Hazazi and Yemeni singer Balqees Ahmed Fathi have split up after a five-month engagement, reported Arreyadi sports newspaper on Wednesday. They had planned to get married in May. The Al-Ittihad footballer and singer, who lives in the United Arab Emirates, reportedly split after a row in a cafe in Dubai last Thursday evening following an AFC Asian Cup qualifying game between Saudi Arabia and China. The Kingdom won 2-1 with Hazazi scoring the winner, which he dedicated to the fans including his ex-fiancée. According to the newspaper, the problems started when Hazazi asked Fathi to give up her singing career after their marriage. She refused so the pair decided it was better for them to split amicably. Hazazi and Balqees announced their engagement in Cairo last October and were to hold their wedding celebrations in Dubai and Jeddah in May. Hazazi refused to talk about the reasons that caused them to break their engagement but said he would reveal everything after the Jeddah derby between Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli on Thursday. He did confirm that reports of the break-up were correct. Fathi wrote on her Twitter account that she broke her engagement with Hazazi for private reasons and wished the player all the best. Al-Ittihad fans launched a massive campaign in support of the player and said they would chant his name in the match against Al-Ahli to lift his spirits and reiterate their strong backing for him. While Fathi has started filming a music clip for Wanasa TV, Hazazi has joined a Red Bull campaign with 500 sportsmen from all over the world.
