RIYADH – The Customs Department officials at Al-Haditha checkpoint have foiled an attempt to smuggle 45,000 drug pills, hidden in packets of Pistachio kernels. Zayed bin Atallah Al-Zayed, director general of the department, said that the conduct of one of the passengers raised suspicion among the customs officials. On inspecting the bags of nuts carried by the passenger, the officials found a large cache of narcotic pills stuffed inside pistachio kernels after discharging their pulp. Then covered the kernels with their natural brown seed coats and glued them with transparent resin coating in a skillful manner in order to avoid detection by the customs officials.
