Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — A parent is suing a shopping mall for negligence in the amusement arcade that led to serious injuries to his son. The father had taken his children to a shopping mall on Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz road. They went into the "Ghosts House” on a cart ride. The attendant placed one of the boys who was 6 years old into one cart, and his 7-year-old brother Yazen on a separate cart. When the carts rolled inside the Ghost House, "Yazen" felt afraid and exited his cart, heading toward the cart his brother was in. However, the two tons cart ran him over, and he was dragged underneath for a distance of six meters. Other children were shrieking that the boy had died. The father rushed inside to the cart and tried to lift it, but it was too heavy. Others helped and they were finally able to pull the child out. His color was blue, and his eyes were bulging out. After many attempt to resuscitate the child, he finally responded. The father bundled up his son, flagged down a patrol car and transported the boy to Bugshan hospital. Doctors said that there no broken bones, but the cart's wheels had left scars on his body. He is now in stable condition. The shopping mall manager, Abdulilah Al-Awadhi, said that the amusement arcade is operated under separate management. He added that there are emergency units and a general practitioner in the mall. The manager of the amusement arcade at the mall, Riyadh Abulmajd, said that he had accompanied the child to the hospital and remained there until 1 a.m. to ensure that the child's condition was stable. He added that neither the management nor the workers are liable for the incident. Spokesman of Makkah Province Civil Defense, Col. Saeed Sarhan, said that the father has notified the Civil Defense of the incident, and investigating teams have begun their work. The Civil Defense, he added, conducts periodic inspections of amusement parks. Violations result in the closure of the park, until the hazards are dealt with.
