Adnan Shabrawi Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Police have arrested a man who allegedly tortured and poured scalding water over his son's body. The father has been referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution and will later be referred to court. The mother of the boy, identified as Rakan, will also be investigated by police and referred to court if found guilty of helping her husband in torturing their son. The director of the Social Protection Committee Salih Al-Ghamdi said a detailed report about Rakan's case would be sent to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the office of Makkah Emir and the Jeddah governor. He said: “We're waiting for Rakan to get well and be discharged from hospital so that we can decide who is going to take care of him — a Jeddah orphanage, social protection center or the boy's grandfather.” He said Rakan was a lovely nine-year-old boy who has endured enormous pain. He noted that Rakan was improving gradually, health-wise and psychologically. Rakan will stay two weeks in the hospital, according to medical sources. Currently, he is being prepared for plastic surgery on his right arm, the source added. The hospital expects his burns to take a month to heal.
