BERLIN — In-form striker Mario Mandzukic scored twice to steer Bayern Munich to a 3-0 victory at Mainz 05 Saturday and increase its runaway lead at the top of the Bundesliga to an enormous 14 points. Bundesliga top scorer Mandzukic, who also scored one goal and set up another last week, struck twice in seven minutes early in the second half to take his league goal tally to 14 as Bayern won its 16th out of 20 games so far. Thomas Mueller had given the visitors a 40th minute lead with his 11th goal of the season. Bayern, which set a new record after winning nine of its 10 away games this season without conceding a goal, is on 51 points with second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, on 37, facing champion Borussia Dortmund Sunday. Bottom side Greuther Fuerth scored in injury time to snatch a 2-1 at Schalke, after winter signing Milan Bastos scored on his debut for the home side. Wolfsburg drew 1-1 with Augsburg, Hoffenheim beat visiting Freiburg 2-1 and Stuttgart lost 3-1 at Fortuna Duesseldorf. Bilbao holds Valladolid Forward Markel Susaeta scored one goal and set up another to lead Athletic Bilbao's fightback for a 2-2 draw at Valladolid in the Spanish league Friday. Valladolid had an excellent start with striker Javi Guerra heading home its opener eight minutes in after Bilbao's Aritz Aduriz had hit the post. Alberto Bueno then doubled the hosts' lead in the 15th when he toed Daniel Larsson's pass beyond goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz. But Oscar de Marcos pulled one back for Bilbao in the 22nd by redirecting Susaeta's cross off the upright and into the net, and, after Guerra had hit the upright, Susaeta completed the comeback by tapping in a corner at the far post in the 50th. Bilbao remained in 13th place and unbeaten in three games, while Valladolid stayed in 10th place. Roma sacks manager Zeman Italian Serie A club AS Roma sacked manager Zdenek Zeman Saturday after a 4-2 loss at home to Cagliari Friday. “AS Roma announces that it has relieved Mr Zdenek Zeman of his position as coach of the first team,” a club statement said. “The team has been temporarily entrusted to Mr Aurelio Andreazzoli.” Friday's defeat was the latest in a line of embarrassing results for Roma, which has yet to win this year and find itself in eighth place on 34 points, nine behind local rivals Lazio in the third Champions League spot. It is also three points behind AC Milan, which is fifth and occupies the second Europa League slot. Zeman was brought in with much fanfare to replace Luis Enrique in the close season after the Spaniard presided over a disappointing season. However, the Czech-born coach has failed to challenge for the title or the Champions League places, both season's objectives. While its attacking play can often be exceptional, his team has conceded 42 goals so far this season, more than any other side apart from 17th-placed Pescara. The fans finally turned on him after Cagliari's fourth goal Friday, with hardcore fans in the Olympic Stadium displaying a banner that read “Boemo (Bohemian, Zeman's nickname) out”. — Agencies
