Ibrahim Al-Qurbi Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Cemetery workers claim that some relatives of the dead haggle with them to bury their dead at certain ‘prime' locations. They said that some ask for their dead to be buried near relatives or in a secluded area. Some also ask the workers to layer the grave site with more dirt to keep it cool. Cemetery workers try to explain that all burial sites are similar, and the workers do not distinguish between one dead person or the other. Grave sites are opened after one year, to be readied for additional bodies. Makkah Mayor Dr. Osamah Al-Bar and Jeddah Municipality spokesman Dr. Abdulazizi Al-Nahari also reiterated that all cemeteries and burial sites are equal. There are no cemeteries for the rich or famous, they added. The dead are buried in the nearest cemetery if space is available.
