JEDDAH — “The 25th January Revolution is and will always be a great landmark of a major and historical change in Egypt brought about by the Egyptian people,” said Egypt's Consul General Adel El-Alfy during the reception to mark the second anniversary on Friday.
The revolution brought about sea change, and it enabled the people to elect and choose their president,” El-Alfy said at the Egypt's Consulate General here.
El-Alfy, consuls and consulate members received consuls and ambassadors of Arab, Islamic and foreign countries, and other prominent Saudi figures who attended the celebrations.
El-Alfy addressed attendees and expressed his pleasure at marking the anniversary of an event that spontaneously unified all segments of the society in Egypt against corruption, injustice and oppression.
“It was an epic that amazed and attracted global attention. People called for decent living, freedom and social justice,” he added.
El-Alfy expressed his greetings and appreciation to Egyptian people, martyrs and armed forces.
“As usual, the armed forces has a major role to play in Egypt, and apart from providing security to the country, it protected the people during the revolution.”
He also praised the Kingdom and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman for their understanding of the current phase that Egypt is going through and their support to Egypt's people and government.
El-Alfy called on everyone to sustain the positive spirit of the 25th January that energized Egyptian people in order to overcome the current difficult period — political, economic, social and developmental challenges — in order to help Egypt regain its dominant position in the global community.
El-Alfy revealed that Egypt's economic is on the recovery path since its fundamentals are sound, and based on strong factors such as manpower, local market and experience thus encouraging investors to look on Egypt favorably.
On politics, he said, Egypt has taken a great leap with the functioning of the parliament and holding of presidential elections and constitution referendum. In addition there is the upcoming parliament elections.
Mohammad Ahmad Tayeb, Director General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Makkah Region, expressed his happiness to be part of the 25th January Revolution celebration here.
Tayeb also stressed on the strong relations enjoyed between the two countries.
“Egypt is always been a good friend, and this is seen in the strong relations since the time of King Abdul Aziz. Egyptian teachers, doctors, pharmacists, engineers, farmers have always been part in the development of Saudi Arabia,” Tayeb said.
However, while stressing that the benefits and rights of the Egyptian community here would be respected, he urged them not to encourage any overstayers and violators of residency regulations.
On Wednesday evening, a public celebration organized by Egyptian associations took place in the consulate premises. In his speech, the Professional Association President, Dr. Gamil Khalifa, urged all Egyptians to be united and to overcome any obstacle in their development process.
Two amateur guitarists played the instrument and sang enthusiastic national songs and other youths interacted with them. Also an Egyptian poet delivered a poem on Egypt as part of entertainment of the evening..
