Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo saved a match point before beating fifth seed Patty Schnyder 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA event in New Haven on Wednesday. The Frenchwoman, looking to climb the rankings from 33rd after an injury-hit year, pushed hard in the final set to continue her recent revival. “Even if I had lost today I think I would have been pretty satisfied with my performance, if a bit disappointed,” Mauresmo told reporters. Mauresmo led 4-2 in the final set but Schnyder broke twice and served for the match at 5-4 only for two double-faults to hand Mauresmo a lifeline. The Swiss then led 6-5 in the tiebreak but could not convert a forehand pass and two points later, netted a backhand to give the twice Grand Slam winner victory after two hours nine minutes. Mauresmo will now play fourth seed and last year's runner-up Agnes Szavay of Hungary. Top seed Anna Chakvetadze booked her place in the last eight after a routine 6-4, 6-4 win over Australian Casey Dellacqua. “I didn't play any matches for two weeks and I had never played her before so didn't know what to expect,” Chakvetadze said. Caroline Wozniacki also advanced to the last eight. In the men's event, fourth-seeded Igor Andreev defeated Victor Hanescu of Romania 6-4, 7-5 to reach the Pilot Pen quarterfinals for a third time. Andreev, twice a finalist this year, will try to make the semifinals for the first time in New Haven against sixth-seeded Marin Cilic, who overcame Jurgen Melzer of Austria 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. No. 7 Andreas Seppi defeated fellow Italian Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-2 in his third-round match, and American Jesse Levine advanced to his first quarterfinals on the main tour when Belgian opponent Steve Darcis retired with a back injury during the first set. On Tuesday, Ivo Karlovic rallied from a set down to subdue American John Isner. The 29-year-old Croatian veteran, seeded No. 2 here, pulled off a 6-7 (7-4), 6-3, 6-4 come-from-behind victory over the unseeded Isner in a match between two of the tallest players on Tour. Karlovic is now pitted to meet Slovanian qualifier Luka Gregorc, who beat Argentine's Jose Acasuso 6-4, 6-4. – Agencies __
