NEW DELHI — The Indian government plans to issue a commemorative postal stamp in honor of freedom fighter and noted Muslim personality Maulana Hifuzr Rehman Seoharvi soon. Communication and IT Minister Kapil Sibbal announced this recently during a function here to release a postage stamp on Sheikh-ul Hind Maulana Mahmood Hasan Deobandi (Aseere Malta) in recognition of his “Reshmi Romal Tehrik – Silk Letter Movement”. The stamp was released by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function jointly organized by Sheikh-ul Hind Trust and Universal Association of Spiritual Awareness. The meeting was presided over by Maulana Qari Syed Muhammad Usman Mansoorpuri. Minister Sibbal appreciated the efforts of Indian Postal Services to honor and appreciate the sacrifices of great Indian personalities. He said the postal stamp on Maulana Hifzur Rahman, who spent about eight years in jail during the freedom struggle, would be released by August of this year. Maulana Hifzur Rahman was a member of the first Constituent Assembly of India and served the nation as a member of parliament from Amroha from 1943 to 1962. — SG
