LONDON — Steven Gerrard said he felt “flattered” to be given a gala tribute dinner by England's Football Writers' Association (FWA). Liverpool and England captain Gerrard, the FWA's Footballer of the Year in 2009, speaking before the dinner in his honor at London's Savoy Hotel Sunday, said: “Tonight's award means a lot because these guys have followed me throughout my career, written about me whenever I have played, to receive this award from the Football Writers' Association is a very proud night for myself and my family. “I feel very flattered and humbled to receive it.” He has won 100 caps for his country. — AP
