BERLIN — Forward Mario Mandzukic struck twice to steer Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich to a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Greuther Fuerth Saturday to protect its nine-point lead as the league resumed after a four-week mid-season break. The host never hit top form in a largely one-sided game. It was enough, however, to lift it to 45 points, with second-placed Bayer Leverkusen on 36 after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in a game briefly delayed due to fans lighting flares and fireworks. Croatia striker Mandzukic put Bayern into the lead in the 26th minute and he grabbed his 11th goal of the season on the hour when he got in front of his marker to head in a Toni Kroos corner. Wolfsburg gave new coach Dieter Hecking a winning start in a 2-0 victory over Stuttgart. Hoffenheim and Borussia Moenchengladbach played to a 0-0 draw and Mainz and Freiburg also ended in a goalless stalemate. Schalke 04 scored four times in the second half to beat battling Hanover 96 5-4 for its first win since November and climb to fifth Friday. Espanyol edges Mallorca Espanyol beat 10-man Mallorca 3-2 at home in the Spanish league Friday as the Barcelona-based side confirmed its turnaround under coach Javier Aguirre. Simao Sabrosa scored a free kick to give Espanyol the lead in the 17th minute, but Giovani Dos Santos equalized in the 35th and former Espanyol midfielder put Mallorca ahead in the 42nd with a long-range volley. Joan Verdu started Espanyol's comeback by making it 2-2 with a penalty kick when Samuele Longo was fouled by Jose Nunes in the area. Midfielder Raul Baena then drove in a loose ball to grab the winner in the 83rd two minutes after Mallorca's Antonio Luna received his second booking. Espanyol's victory lifted it provisionally into 14th place, while Mallorca stayed in the relegation zone with just one win in the last 15 rounds. — Agencies
