JEDDAH — Residents of some Jeddah neighborhoods say the pyramids of accumulated garbage and the resulting smells are causing them great hardships. Waste is obstructing entry and exit to their homes in the complete absence of cleaning workers. Rodents and insects are multiplying and present an environmental hazard. Traders of fruit and vegetables also dump their refuse in the street, adding to the problem. The appearance of the neighborhood causes an embarrassment to the residents when they receive family and friends from other parts of Jeddah. Spokesman for Jeddah municipality Abdulaziz Al-Nahari said that there had been a problem with the cleaning workers, but it is solved now and they will soon return to work. — SG
