DAMMAM — Border guards rescued two Saudi men who were trapped for four days in the Empty Quarter desert after their pickup truck got stuck in the sand. After receiving a desperate call for help from the two men, the Border Guard control room managed to trace their exact location inside the desert. The closest center was contacted to deploy ground rescue teams for help, which was 160 km away from the location where the men got stuck. After 10 hours of searching they were found and rescued. A Border Guard spokesman said the two men were found in bad shape and they had almost run out of food and water. The pickup truck was found almost buried under the sand and in the middle of sand dunes. According to the spokesman, the pair managed to survive for four days because they had taken with them enough food and water to last them for days. The two men did not call for help immediately and instead they tried to free their truck. They only called when they almost ran out of food and water. The Border Guard urged people who are going on desert trips to carry enough food and water just in case.
