JEDDAH — The Jeddah Basketball League (JBL) opened its 2013 JBL 1st Conference Non-Rated Basketball Tournament last Friday at Bin Mahfouz basketball court at Andalus District here in Jeddah.
Participating teams paraded in their resplendent uniforms during the opening ceremony which was presided by JBL President Mohammed Rasheed Suyat and Commissioner Joe Dela Cerna. Baba Ahmad Peradilla of Jeddah Dawa'h Center said the opening prayers and inspirational Islamic Dawa'h. Mohammed Bayoumi did the ceremonial toss.
The awards for the Best Team in Uniform went to ALJ Used Cars, Urban Design Group, Awdah and JDC Taqwa Brothers Green. Claiming the Best Mascot accolades were Ivan and John Dennis Mendoza of NCB Quick Pay and JDC Salam Brothers White. Best Muse awards went to Safari and Urban Design Group.
Islamic Development Bank of Omer Celis beat Almabani 39-35. The winner applied a tough defense in the final quarter to upset the losers and it worked. Erwin Malabed scored 16 points for the winner and was adjudged the Giordano player of the game while Caguioa top scored with 10 points for the loser.
This tournament is sponsored by Giordano Fashions (Ahmedullah), ABS-CBN - The Filipino Channel, Saudi Signs (Sam Adora) and Al-Haddaf Sportsware (Bayoumi).
Barangay Fame SBG of Renren Miramonte prevailed over Al-Ittefaq in a low-scoring game at 49-46. Edy Gallano scored 11 points for the winner and was adjudged the Saudi Signs player of the game while Atonio Espayos led the losers with 15 points.
Al-Mustaqbal Hospital team of Jack Esquierdo beat Safari 56-48. The winner displayed its determination as the loser continued to rally well. Safari committed crucial back-to-back passing errors in the dying seconds and the winner exploited the situation very well. Martinez and Bertolano scored 14 points apiece for the winner. Martinez was adjudged the JBL player of the game while Edmund Icaulo top scored with 9 points for the loser.
