Saudi Gazette report JAZAN — The Jazan juvenile center is in a poor state and the inmates are complaining about dire living conditions. The building is old and its capacity cannot cater to the number of detainees. Doors, bathrooms, windows and air-conditioning are all in a miserable condition. A number of inmates have complained to the Human Rights Society to relieve their sufferings. The number of beds is not enough, and some have to wait their turn to sleep. Beds and blankets are in bad shape, and the bathrooms and bedrooms are not cleaned and sanitized. The clinic lacks specialized doctors, and the management does not allow inmate to leave hospitals. The management provides for one set of uniform but forces the recipients to sign that they have received four sets. Visitation is uncontrolled, which causes occasional embarrassments for visiting families. The head of Jazan human rights office, Ahmad Al-Bahkali, said a delegation was commissioned to visit the center in coordination with different concerned bodies. The manager of the center, Hasan Suwan, claimed that the building is rented, and the services are provided according to available resources. He added that a new building is under construction, and is 95 percent complete.
