JEDDAH — Municipal inspectors have handed out fines of at least SR5,000 to residents who connected their houses' septic tanks to the nearest rainwater drainage network. Most of the violations occurred in Jeddah's southern neighborhoods, as there is no sewage disposal system. Mohammad Al-Qattan, the director of the water, valleys and floods department at the municipality, said these connections were removed as they pose a pollution hazard to the sea. He added the municipality had recently signed two contracts with new companies for the maintenance of rainwater disposal networks in the north and south of Jeddah.
