DUBAI — The spectacular “Black Light Show,” a major event on the calendar of the 18th edition of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), drew a large number of visitors of various ages and nationalities. Organized by 82 Events in cooperation with DSF, the show was performed by renowned Hungarian black light theater company “Attraction” from Jan. 3-6 at Dubai Community Theater and Arts Center (DUCTAC) in the Mall of the Emirates. Attraction staged one-hour shows designed especially for the UAE. The actors managed to create with their bodies' shadows different spectacular views with the help of light, color, sound effects and music. They brought to life Dubai's major tourist attractions, such as the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Union Towers, Atlantis Hotel, the Palm Island and Jumeirah Beach amid the loud applause of the enthusiastic audience. Attraction has performed international shows such as the New York, London, Hungarian and Desert Shows. The Hungarian performers expressed their admiration for the great public response and said that they are happy to perform their first black light show in the Middle East, specifically in the UAE, as part of DSF. They promised to perform more thrilling and exciting shows over the next few days. Black light theater actually relies on one simple optical illusion called the “black box trick,” as the performers who are dressed in black cannot be seen against a black background. The actors in black use various props and objects, which are lit by ultraviolet light or by moving spotlights. Actors themselves cannot be seen though and so objects seem to be moving on their own, making viewers believe that the actors can fly or perform other seemingly impossible feats. — SG
