Abdullah gave Al-Ahli a 1-0 victory over Al-Salimiyah of Kuwait in the 24th GCC Club Football Championship at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here on Saturday. The two teams fought well and the Kuwaiti side threatened the greens' goal several times. However, Al-Ahli defenders thwarted the dangerous counterattacks. Earlier, Dhafar of Oman collected three points after winning its opener against Al-Najmah of Bahrain, 1-0. The victories put Al-Ahli and Dhafar on the top of their groups with three points each. In a Group A match, played at Al-Khor in Qatar, Saudi Arabia's Al-Nasr Club of Riyadh lost 0-1 to Al-Qadsia of Kuwait. Tunisian Achour scored the only goal in the 17th minute. On Sunday, Al-Muharraq of Bahrain will meet Al-Nahdah of Oman, while Al-Qadsia of Kuwait meets Al-Khor of Qatar on Monday. Two clubs each from four countries are participating in the championship. After the Emirati representatives withdrew from the championship, Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia was selected to host Group B matches. This group consists of Al-Salimiyah of Kuwait, Al-Najmah of Bahrain and Dhafar of Oman. Al-Raed prevails Al-Raed of Saudi Arabia won over Al-Karamah of Syria 2-0 in the first International Elite Championship at Prince Sultan Stadium in Abha. Prince Faisal Bin Khaled, Emir of Asir Region, graced the opening. Majed Al-Muwallad put Al-Raed in the lead before Kabi sealed the win. In the second match, Al-Mohammed Noor of Al-Ittihad scored the only goal in the 75th minute against Morrocan FAR Forces Armée Royales. __
