Filipino indie films win big at int'l fests

MANILA — Two Filipino independent films reaped awards at international film festivals over the weekend, according to ABS-CBN News.
“Sta. Nina” bested 13 other films from Asia, Latin America, and Africa to win the Suvarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant) award at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). The Emmanuel Palo-helmed film stars Coco Martin, Alessandra de Rossi, and Anita Linda.
Veteran actor Eddie Garcia, meanwhile, was named Best Actor at the 55th Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Macau on Saturday. He was cited for his performance in the indie film “Bwakaw.”
Both films were 2012 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival entries. — SG
