Ahli won the 28th Handball GCC Clubs Championship beating Al-Salimiyah of Kuwait 39-36 at the General Presidency of Youth Welfare Hall, here Saturday. The two clubs were cautious from the start depending on fast counter-attacks. While the Kuwaiti team felt the absence of suspended players, the Saudi club's players Hussain Ekhwan and the Egyptian Ahmed Bahamar were in great form. The first half ended at 18-11 for Al-Ahli. The Kuwaitis, however, bounced back taking the match into extra time after equalizing at 32-32 before the final whistle. Al-Ahli, with backing of the fans watching the match, made the final push and claimed the match 39-36. Ahmed Al-Marzouqi, President of Al-Ahli Club, received calls from Prince Sultan Bin Fahd, President of Youth Welfare, and Prince Nawaf Bin Faisal, Deputy President of Youth Welfare, applauding the club for winning the championship. __
