Blood samples sent to the poison laboratory at King Khaled University Hospital in Riyadh revealed a poisonous substance as well as a large amount of potassium and phosphide in the blood of the two children who died after eating at a restaurant in Madina. A report issued by the laboratory on Wednesday revealed that this compound is highly toxic and that gas it releases into the blood was responsible for the death of the children, Dar Al-Hayat reported. The official spokesperson for the Health Affairs Department in Madina said that the test results sent to the department's poison center have yet to be released. The mother and her two children are still receiving treatment at the Obstetrics/Gynaecology Hospital in Madina. The spokesperson said that the mother and her unborn fetus are in stable condition however her two other children, Sami and Wafaa are in critical condition. According to clinical tests, the children have sustained potassium phosphide poisoning. The father of the boys who died said he will sue the fast food restaurant for poisoning his children. “I have lost the dearest thing I had and I don't even know what will become of my other two children. I don't know how I will go on with my life but I am one hundred percent confident that it was the meal that my children ate that killed them, not the pesticide,” he said. Health officials searched the family home previously and found a pesticide in the kitchen which produced similar symptoms which the family experienced prior to being hospitalized.
