Abdul Rahman Al-Ali Saudi Gazette JEDDAH – Jeddah police have arrested a female African thief who pretended to be a street vendor and robbed several victims of their jewelry and money after entering their houses in Al-Laith governorate. She would wander around in streets with a bundle of cloth over her head promoting her goods. She only chose houses which appeared to be affluent. Once she entered a house, she would ask for a cup of water.
When the lady of the house excused herself to fetch the water, the thief would do a quick search and steal any valuable items including gold and jewelry. Investigators were initially surprised that the reported thefts were pulled off without any signs of break-in. No locks or windows had been broken. However, investigators narrowed down their suspicions to the African vendor who entered all these houses over the past few days. Undercover officers started to monitor her movements. When she got suspicious that officers were closing in on her, she moved to Jeddah only to be caught by Jeddah police while she was on her way to rob another victim. Officers found large quantities of gold and jewelry on her possession. The spokesman for Jeddah police said investigations are still going on to discover all the thefts she carried out over the past few weeks.
