JEDDAH – The husband of a woman who underwent an operation to remove a benign cyst in her lower abdomen has filed a medical malpractice claim after she suffered serious complications during the procedure. Hafez Hazazzi alleged that the surgical team performing the procedure accidentally made a single 5 cm cut in his wife's bladder, which resulted in serious complications in her urinary system. Hazazzi said he brought his wife to the Maternity and Children's Hospital in Makkah to remove the cyst. However, when the surgical team made the mistake, she had acute urinary bleeding and developed serious complications in her urinary tract. “The mistake caused irreparable damage and I've filed a complaint with the hospital's administration and asked the Ministry of Health to punish the errant doctor,” said Hazazzi. Tariq Al-Ghamdi, the Health Affairs spokesman, said anyone has the right to lodge a complaint against any doctor they think has made a medical mistake by reporting the error to the hospital's administration.
