Cameroon midfielder Jean Makoun, a summer signing from Lille, headed in a free kick from playmaker Juninho in the 12th minute, and Benzema chested a cross from winger Sidney Govou to fire home and double the lead in the 58th. The top goalscorer in the league last season notched his second goal eight minutes later, converting a rebound after Jean-Alain Boumsong's header off a corner kick crashed against the crossbar.
