DAMMAM — Col. Khaled Al-Arqoubi, Border Guard spokesman in the Eastern Province, denied recent rumors that Iranian authorities have freed a Saudi fishing boat they captured recently. Col. Al-Arquobi said the Border Guard command has not received any confirmation from its Iranian counterparts regarding the release of the boat as was announced by Iranian state television. Accidental entry of fishing boats into territorial waters is a common occurrence due to the geographic nature of the region. The Border Guard in the Kingdom commonly deals with Iranian and Qatari boats venturing into the Kingdom's territorial waters. It should be understood that the entry of the fishing boat into other countries' territorial waters is not intentional because the sea areas are not clearly demarcated.
