JEDDAH — There are 13, 000 renal failure patients who are on regular hemodialysis in the Kingdom. According to a report, 3,000 patients are registered at the Saudi National Center for Kidney Transplants and are on the waiting list. Also, there are 2,000 patients whose condition is being assessed in order to be added to the waiting list. The Kidney Center at King Fahd Hospital marked the World Kidney Day with the participation of Dr. Salem Baslamah, the hospital's director, and the center's medical staff. Dr. Nawal Basri, head of the awareness-raising committee at the hospital, said the committee is mainly tasked with enlightening the public about the importance of organ donation and encouraging all segments of society to donate their organs, especially kidneys. The WHO has approved the observation of the day, which reflects the world consensus on the importance of kidney donation and transplantation.
