MUMBAI — Actors Saif Ali Khan and his wife Kareena Kapoor are overwhelmed by the magnum-opus plays and impeccable performances being delivered by some of India's seasoned artists at the grand Prithvi Festival. The festival, a prominent part of the Indian theater calendar, kicked off on Nov. 3 after a two-year break. It was founded by veteran actor Shashi Kapoor. The 16-day festival, considered the epicenter of creativity, is being attended by celebrities like Shabana Azmi, Randeep Hooda, Ratna Pathak, Dia Mirza, among others, and all theater lovers from across the region. “I am really proud to be a part of a family that is so creative. Whether it's films, theater, dance… I just feel proud today to be a Kapoor,” said Kareena, one of the granddaughters of Shashi. The inaugural play at the festival, featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapoor, was Motley's “A Walk in the Woods” adapted in an Indian context. Kareena said that after looking at Shah and Rajat's live theatrical performance, she felt she “wasn't an actor.” “It's a strong family responsibility and tradition that the Kapoors have kept up alongside the work in cinema,” said Khan. — SG
