Bordeaux rallied past Caen 2-1 in the opening round of the French league on Saturday. Benjamin Nivet scored for Caen on a counterattack, flicking home a cross from Steve Savidan in the 14th minute. But Yoann Gourcuff, on loan from AC Milan, leveled for Bordeaux in the 53rd with a 20-meter strike that deflected off Caen defender Jeremy Sorbon's back. Argentine forward Fernando Cavenaghi notched the winner for last season's runner-up, heading in a free kick from Gourcuff in the 80th. Elsewhere, it was: Rennes 4, Marseille 4; Nancy 0, Lille 0; Valenciennes 1, Saint-Etienne 0; Le Havre 1, Nice 0; Le Mans 0, Lorient 1; Monaco 1, Paris Saint-Germain 0; Auxerre 2, Nantes 1; and Sochaux 1, Grenoble 2. Olivier Thomert netted twice to help Rennes come back from 3-1 down and draw with a serious contender for the title, Marseille. Thomert shot past Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda in the fifth but Bakari Kone cut inside American defender Carlos Bocanegra to fire the equalizer into the top left corner in the 13th. Hatem Ben Arfa beat goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez in the 15th to give Marseille the lead, and Senegal forward Mamadou Niang tapped in a low cross from Nigeria leftback Taye Taiwo to make it 3-1 in the 27th. Thomert pulled one back for Rennes, converting a rebound in the 50th.
