NEW YORK — Mayor Michael Bloomberg has said the New York City Marathon will go on as planned Sunday after superstorm Sandy devastated the city. Organizers of the world's largest marathon had been moving forward with planning but waited for final word from the city about whether holding the race would be safe. Flooding, power outages and transit shutdowns are still widespread, and the race goes through the city's all five boroughs. New York Road Runners President Mary Wittenberg has insisted the race can be an inspiration to New Yorkers and benefit businesses that have lost money because of the storm. — AP
