ISTANBUL – Turkey's foreign trade deficit decreased by 34.7 percent year-on-year in September 2012, official statistics agency, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TU?K) said Wednesday. Exports increased by 21 percent, reaching $13 billion while imports were down by 6.4 percent to $19.8 billion compared with September 2011. The foreign trade deficit decreased from $10.4 billion to $6.8 billion. In August 2012, exports increased by 14,5 percent and reached to $2, 874 million, while imports decreased by 4,8 percent and reached to $18, 736 million compared with August 2011. At the same month, foreign trade deficit decreased from $8, 434 million to $5,862 million. Calendar adjusted exports increased by 14.5 percent and imports decreased by 0.9 percent compared with August 2011. Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports increased by 10,9 percent and imports decreased by 0.9 percent compared with previous month. In August 2012 exports coverage imports was 68.7 percent while it was 57.1 percent in August 2011. The EU's share in exports decreased to 33,6 percent in August 2012 Exports to EU were $4,330 million, decreased by 12.1 percent. – SG
