SOELDEN, Austria — Tina Maze of Slovenia won the season-opening women's World Cup giant slalom Saturday. Maze, runner-up to Lindsey Vonn in the overall standings last year, held on to her lead after the first run to finish in an overall time of 2 minutes, 31.41 seconds for her 12th career victory. Kathrin Zettel was 0.42 behind in second place, and her Austrian teammate Stefanie Koehle trailed Maze by 1.71 in third. Vonn went out in the second run after hooking a gate with her left arm and sliding off-course but escaped injury. The second run was delayed because of thick fog over the course. — AP
