TRIPOLI — Local council officials in Aziziya District Council and a delegation from the Elders' Council of Libya agreed Sunday that those involved in Saturday's attack on Camp 27, west of Tripoli, should be handed over to the police and prosecuted. On Saturday, a group of supposed Gaddafi supporters attacked the former Khamis Brigade camp between Janzour and Zawia, reportedly holding it for several hours. It was later retaken by government forces but the fighting involved not only the Supreme Security Committee (SSC) and forces from the Thunderbolt Battalion but also, at one point, the air force. Officials are saying very little about the incident and it is not known if anyone was killed or injured. It is being suggested that the aim of the attack was to divert the armed forces from the attack on Bani Walid. In the meeting, attended by members of Wirshefana tribe and representatives from the SSC, it was also agreed to hand to the appropriate authorities all the weapons and equipment that had been stolen from the base. — Libya Herald
